A History of the Massey Ferguson 8200 Xtra Series
The 8200 series Massey Fergusons were released in early 2002. The new 8200 range offered upgraded engine power, stronger axles and a range of enhanced features such as a new intercooler, improved fuel injection system and beefed up front axels. This series of tractor was produced in Massey Ferguson's Beauvais factory in France.
The range of tractors started with the 8210, producing 154 horsepower, up to the 8280 Xtra producing 288 horsepower. The 8210 and 8220 Xtra were powered by 6 cylinder Perkins engines, whereas the 8240 Xtra up to the 8280 Xtra were powered by 6 cylinder Sisu engines. For anyone who's seen these tractors in action, you'll certainly remember the noise they made!
The 8270 Xtra as produced by Universal Hobbies was the second to biggest model. It was powered by a 6 cylinder Sisu engine producing 261 horsepower, has a top road speed of 39.8kph and weighed 9210kg.
The 8200 series of Massey Fergusons also made the Guinness Book of World Records. On the 25th March 2002, in Sanguinet Bordeau, France, a MF 8280 Xtra ploughed 620.899 acres (251.376 hectares) in 24 hours - a record that hasn't been beaten since! This beat the previous record held by a Case Quadtrac by nearly an extra 4 acres an hour. The 8280 Xtra was equipped with a front a rear mounted Gregoire Besson plough, giving a combination of 17 furrows and a width of 27.9ft (8.5m).

A Look at the Massey Ferguson 8270 Model Tractor
The rear flotation tyres on this farm model really set it apart from other Massey Ferguson models released by Universal Hobbies.
The model also features front linkage, folding mirrors and traditional Universal Hobbies rear linkage.
So how could this model look on your model farm? With the flotation tyres, providing reduced ground pressure, this is a machine made for land work. Coupling up an older style cultivator or drill will really bring this model to life. An older style weight for the front will also finish off what is an outstandingly detailed model.
For the diorama fans, this would be an great addition to your collection when building a 00's diorama.
